Spring 2006: Alberta Ferretti

Guess which collection we liked today? Alberta Ferretti, Spring 2006. She has a great balance of the structured, highly-tailored tight pieces I love and the billowy fashions that are so popular right now. Besides, the fabrics – wow! Whether custom-painted/prints or just amazing drape, every garment looked rich and lush. I just wanted to reach right into the photograph and molest the fabric.

Spring 2006: Burberry Prorsum

Burberry Prorsum
Ah, Burberry. What can I say? I like those tailored English looks.

See? Classic little English dress, fit to the season with an Empire waist.

In my mind, Burberry is that safe place you run to when you've run head-first into disaster after fashion disaster. The clothing is always going to please – it's never extreme or even wacky – and you can recycle your pieces season after season if you'd like. That Burberry trench coat will still be good in ten days or ten years.
But it's also the weakness. If one were to stay exclusive to the brand, you'd have such boring clothes. Burberry is a springboard, a basic piece to surround with your own things to make your own.
