Review: Dr. Horrible by Zack Whedon

Dr. Horrible

by Zack Whedon, Eric Canete, Joelle Jones, Farel Dalrymple, Scott Hepburn and Jim Rugg

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, created during the WGA writer's strike a couple of years ago, is an awsome three-episode miniseries. If you've somehow made it this far in life without seeing the show, click right here and get started. Come back when you're done, and we will continue.

After the musical was released on the Internet, a couple of short comics popped up over the next year or two. A story about Captain Hammer was made available on MySpace via Dark Horse Comics, as was the origin story of Moist, Dr. Horrible's sidekick/sometimes-henchman. I believe – but can't remember for sure – that there may have been a Dr. Horrible comic for “Free Comic Book Day” as well. Anyway. So there were a lot of these little comics floating around, and someone finally got around to compiling them into a single graphic novel. There are five stories in total. In addition to tho two linked above, there are comics about Dr. Horrible, Penny, and the Evil League of Evil.

If you enjoyed the Sing-Along Blog, you'll have fun learning some of the history behind the main characters. Plus, a chance to see the Evil League of Evil in action is always cool, right? The art isn't especially memorable, but it matches the tone of the original series and dude, it's Dr. Horrible. I would have loved the stupid comics if they were just stick figures.
